The digestive system is intimately linked to the immune, endocrine, circulatory and central nervous systems. One of the most exciting aspects of this is the gut-brain connection. Some people believe that the following conditions can be improved by healing the digestive tract: Autism, ASD, ADD, ADHD, PDD, depression, dyslexia, dyspraxia, learning disabilities and schizophrenia.
Our philosophy is based on the Weston A Price Foundation (WAPF) and on the Body Ecology Diet (BED). WAPF is a great resource for learning about the diets of healthy traditional cultures, not only what they ate, but how they prepared their food. BED focuses on healing the digestive tract with fermented foods that are rich in beneficial microorganisms. These two components are absent from most nutritional interventions for children with autism and other health challenges. There are benefits to diets such as the Gluten Free / Casein Free diet (GFCF), or the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) or even the Feingold diet. However, some of these diets may be hard to follow or they may only be addressing the symptoms. It may be a hard and long transition, but the results of a diet rich in nutrient dense foods are worth it.
We all have our own path to wellness and nutrition will always be an important component. However, since nutrition is only one facet of health, we are happy to work in conjunction with other health care practitioners to help you achieve your goal.
